Job Description

Senior Electrical Engineer
Pawtucket, RI
$150, 000 to $180, 000 per year depending on experience

Senior Electrical Engineer

We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership across the design, development, and deployment of low-power, compact embedded electronics for textile-integrated systems. This role is ideal for a senior engineer with deep expertise in embedded hardware architecture and a proven ability to take products from early concept through validation, manufacturing, and field deployment.

About the Company

The organization develops state-of-the-art textile-integrated systems for monitoring high-value assets and their environments. Core technologies enable the distributed integration of electronics into textiles without compromising mechanical performance. These capabilities are leveraged to deliver systems of immediate customer value while continuously advancing manufacturability and scalability.

The team operates as a small, interdisciplinary group focused on rapid experimentation and development of novel integrated systems. Team members are expected to demonstrate strong technical leadership, personal autonomy, and a commitment to engineering craftsmanship and integrity. Success in this role requires comfort working both independently and collaboratively within a fast-moving, high-performance environment.

Role Overview

This position spans the full embedded hardware lifecycle from system architecture and schematic design through PCB layout, validation, and production support. As a Staff Engineer, you will help set technical direction, make design decisions that impact reliability and manufacturability, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to productize systems where power efficiency, compact form factor, RF performance, and robust communication are critical.

U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect, design, and deliver embedded PCBs integrating microcontrollers, SoCs, sensors, wireless modules, and power management circuitry
  • Own schematic capture and PCB layout, balancing electrical performance, RF requirements, mechanical constraints, and manufacturability
  • Lead board bring-up, debugging, and validation of prototype and production hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and related lab equipment
  • Drive hardware through verification, qualification, and release to manufacturing, supporting iterative revisions as needed
  • Support system-level integration, test strategy development, and root-cause analysis for manufacturing or field issues
  • Define and implement digital and wireless interfaces including I C, SPI, UART, USB, GPIO, and RF links
  • Collaborate closely with firmware engineers to ensure effective hardware/software co-design and integration
  • Support rapid prototyping, iterative board spins, and design-for-manufacture (DFM) and design-for-test (DFT) efforts
  • Develop and maintain clear documentation for hardware designs, test procedures, and revision history throughout the product lifecycle
  • Lead and participate in design reviews, contributing to system architecture and long-term platform decisions
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers on embedded and RF hardware best practices
  • Contribute to R&D efforts that advance core technologies and transition them into production-ready systems

Preferred Qualifications
  • 9+ years of experience designing, debugging, and deploying embedded hardware from concept through production
  • Demonstrated ownership of hardware that has entered manufacturing or been fielded
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.G., Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD)
  • Strong understanding of PCB design best practices, including signal integrity, power distribution, grounding, EMI/EMC, and mixed-signal layouts
  • Hands-on RF experience, including wireless module integration, RF signal paths, antenna design, or RF validation and tuning
  • Experience with advanced lab equipment such as high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and VNAs
  • Expertise integrating microcontrollers, SoCs, sensors, wireless modules, and power management into compact, low-power designs
  • Deep familiarity with embedded interfaces and protocols (I C, SPI, UART, USB, GPIO)
  • Proven experience collaborating with firmware teams on complex hardware/software integration and debugging
  • Working knowledge of DFM, DFT, and contract manufacturing workflows
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate design decisions and tradeoffs
  • Ability to operate independently, take initiative, and provide technical leadership in small, fast-moving teams
  • Comfort working on early-stage technologies with evolving requirements and aggressive iteration cycles.
